Product Launch: Universal Smoking Machine Adapter
When it comes to mainstream aerosol testing, consistency, accuracy, and ease of use are key. That’s where the Universal Smoking Machine Adapter (USMA) excels—a versatile product holder designed to integrate effortlessly with linear smoking and vaping machines. Built for maximum compatibility and efficiency, the USMA simplifies your testing process by eliminating the need for multiple dedicated fittings.
The adapter consists of two interlocking components that screw together. As the cap is tightened onto the base, a rigid compression plate applies pressure to a flexible ferrule, which distorts to create a secure, leak-free seal around the inserted tobacco or e-vapor product. On the opposite side, the filter holder connects to the base and is available in two sizes—44 mm and 55 mm—to accommodate the standard filter pads used for mainstream smoke and aerosol collection.
Unlike traditional adapters, the ferrule material has been carefully engineered to provide a firm grip without distorting the product, ensuring a consistent and reliable seal. To support a wide variety of mouthpiece shapes and sizes, the starter kit includes four flexible ferrules, each with a unique size and geometry tailored to fit both tobacco and e-vapor products.
To ensure a secure, leak-free seal for accurate emissions testing, users must begin by selecting the correct ferrule for the product being tested. This is done by measuring the dimensions of the product’s mouth end—specifically its width and height (for non-circular shapes) or diameter (for round profiles). These measurements are then cross-referenced with the table above, which outlines the appropriate ferrule sizes and geometrics. Each ferrule has been color-coded for easy identification: blue, red, green, or yellow, corresponding to small or large circular and ellipse-shaped openings.

For heavier products or larger products, additional support may be required once mounted on a smoking machine. To maintain optimal performance and ensure stability during testing, we recommend using the button activation system, which provides adequate support for the product while ensuring consistent operation.
